THE MARKET. Nomad Yard Collectiv.
Washington, D.C. NOVEMBER 12, 2016

A pop-up marketplace and networking event presented by Art Hoe Collective in collaboration with A Creative DC, which brought together emerging & established POC makers, independent artists, and small business innovators. The Market included six vendors based in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, each of them demonstrating the importance of ethically minded small business models, community health and advocacy, as well as sustainable practices. Attendees were encouraged to socialize, shop around, and enjoy the laid-back DJ sets provided by local talents Mane Squeeze and Flash Frequency.

Featured Vendors: Isak Shah, Maganda Pa, Zen Designs, Art Hoe Collective, Artisan Lemonade, and Brandon Chambers.

ABOUT THE VENUE:

Nomad Yard Collectiv, previously located 411 New York Ave. NE, was a Black-owned vintage store and an incubator for emerging artists and entrepreneurs. Founder Desirée Venn Frederic shaped the space as a “living, breathing” part of the community, supporting artist whose goods are deeply influence by people, passion, and possibility.

Nomad Yard existed at the intersection of culture and commerce, where vintage could be viewed as a tool with vast potential — connecting folks to other places, people, and histories.

Unfortunately, The Market was one of the last events to take place at Nomad Yard. By November 27th, following the final efforts within an extensive series of city hearings dealing with the disputed sale of the property to new developers, the store was closed permanently.

Thank you Nomad Yard, for all that you have done,
and will continue to do.
